The South Eastern Economic Development (SEED) Corporation
is a non-profit corporation certified by the United States Small
Business Administration (SBA). SEED was set up in
1982 to improve the economy of
southeastern
Massachusetts
by
helping
small businesses
get started, grow and create jobs. Today, SEED serves small businesses
in all of Massachusetts and most of Rhode Island, making an average
of 125 loans, and providing technical assistance to over 750 existing
and prospective entrepreneurs, annually.
With a 25-year history of meeting the region's small business
community's needs, SEED continues to serve in two primary
roles:
- Assisting
and supporting small
businesses
during their
start-up
phase
to help secure traditional financing; and
- Promoting the expansion
of existing businesses by working with lending institutions and the SBA
to provide the best possible financing package.
SEED’s larger financing
programs are designed to work in conjunction with lending
institutions located in the region.
SEED administers four loan programs, which provide loans ranging
from $5,000 under the Micro Loan Program to
$4 million under the SBA 504 Program.
SEED also administers a Business Assistance
Program, which includes individual sessions for
technical assistance, monthly entrepreneurial workshops and a Small
Business Library. These services are all free.
SEED has over 150 members and 40 directors. SEED’s members
represent community and business organizations, economic development
agencies,
local
officials, lending institutions and small businesses.
